Sport Stars That India Is Looking Forward To For The Rio Olympics


The 2016 Olympics are being held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from 5th to 25th August and there will be a lot of Indian contestants taking part. Sports like athletics, shooting, and wresting are seeing quite a few male and female athletes from the Indian contingent qualifying for the big games. Here are some sports stars that India is looking forward to for the Rio Olympics:

1. Vinesh Phogat:

This 21 year old wrestler comes from a successful background in wrestling with 2 of her cousins also being international wrestlers and medal-winners. She has qualified this year in the 48 kg category and can definitely give a lot of your neighbourhood gym freaks a run for their money!

2. Sakshi Malik:

This fantastic Indian wrestler has qualified in the 58 kg bracket in the Olympics this year. She has participated in a lot of international events before and even won the silver medal in the Commonwealth games in 2014. This is one lady who is sure to get us a win this year!

3. Dipa Karmakar:

Representing India in the international circuit, Dipa Karmakar is an Indian artistic gymnast from Tripura. She was the first Indian female gymnast to win a medal in the Commonwealth games and we’re really rooting for her this year at the Olympics!

4. Abhinav Bindra:

Possibly the most popular International sports contest, Abhinav Bindra is known for his spectacular shooting skills and for bringing in many medals over the years. This year too, he’s qualified as a shooting contestant and if there’s one person who can bring in some gold, it’s him!
