Winter has set in but it doesn’t really mean it’s time to snuggle inside a blanket. At least not for everyone. For those of you who have an adventurous streak, this is the perfect time to get an adrenal in rush by trekking in the wilderness of mountains and among the snow-capped hills.

The best part is there are so many places in India that are just perfect for trekking, such as these five:

1. Zanskar Trek, Ladakh:

Also known as Chadar trek, this offers an unforgettable experience among the beauty of Himalayan ranges. The trek starts from Chilling from where the trekkers make their way on a thick sheet of ice, which is actually the frozen River Zanskar (Chadar) and ends at Lingshed. This trek is also popular for its religious richness and Buddhist heritage.

Best Season: January to February

2. Kumara Parvata Trek, Karnataka:

One of the most interesting aspects of this place is that it has two peaks. Before Kumara Parvata, is another peak known as Sesha Parvata. This summit is absolutely gorgeous and will refresh you instantly. You can enjoy the beauty of the landscape with ease as this trek is not as challenging as it seems.

Best Season: November to Februrary

3. Sandakphu Trek, West Bengal:

If you have always been intrigued by the beautiful Darjeeling, then you should definitely participate in this trekking expedition. There are two routes, starting at Maneybhanj, that you can undertake while trekking. While the first route will take you through Tonglu, the other route covers all places such as Sandakphu, Tonglu and Phalut. The trek takes two days to finish.

Best Season: March to May; October to December

4. Goecha La Trek, Sikkim:

Did you know that this trek is a lot different than any other treks in the country because of its varied landscape? The expedition is filled with beautiful meadows, rhododendron forests, and icy cold yet pristine streams. The trek starts at Yuksom and covers areas such as Tshoka, Sachen, Thansing and Dzongri.

Best Season: September to November, March to April

Difficulty Level: Moderate to Challenging

5. Parashar Lake Trek:

It is the easiest winter trek. Located in Himachal Pradesh, this trek takes just one day to finish and takes you through a beautiful snowbound trail. It ends at the Parashar Lake, which is named after the mythological sage Parashar. Beside the lake is an ancient pagoda style temple. The lake, surrounded by ice on all the sides, is a beautiful sight in winters.

Best Season: December to March
