As dreamy as it may seem, the Internet is actually an extremely dangerous place to be at. And with our soaring subservience on Internet and technology, we are only magnifying this jeopardy. With cybercrime and cyber-attacks on the rise, here’s how you can protect your personal information online:

1. Never sync sensitive or confidential information with Cloud :
Both Android and iOS devices enable automatic synchronisation of information so that you do not lose data if the gadget is lost or broken. However, this convenience comes at the cost of privacy. Always think twice about what information you let leave your privacy grounds.
2. Never charge your electronic device with someone else’s charger :
It is quite possible that your mobile or laptop data gets transferred if you charge your device with some other person’s computer or charger. Besides the leak of personal info, your device may even undergo some malware infection or virus transfer. It could even damage your battery.
3. Always ensure a complete wipe out of sensitive files :
By this we mean complete, sure-shot wipe out, and not just deletion of sensitive files. When you delete a sensitive file from the computer, it only ceases to show up on your Operating System. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t in the memory or on disk. Even if the file has been overwritten, it can still be restored. There are many specialised software designed for this purpose. Hence, before recycling or selling your gadget, be sure to wipe it all out.
4. Closing the account doesn’t mean data deletion :
Often, people close the account or window, thinking they have logged out automatically and the data has been deleted. That is anything but true. If you wish to ensure the removal of account information from a server, first modify it before shutting the account. Then, reopen the server to be doubly sure.
Ensure the presence of a sound anti-virus to prevent hacking or data damage. Storing personal info online is the new trend, but don’t end up harming yourself in this Internet parade.
