Today the game is not just restricted to men but the females have also marked their presence by delivering some phenomenal performances especially in the World Cup.
The Women’s World Cup is held in every four years since 1991 that is conducted by the senior women’s national teams and the current game is being held from 7 June- 7 July.

1. The Venue :
The European nation, France is currently hosting the tournament. The game will be played in a total of nine venues. The nine host cities include Grenoble, Le Havre, Montpellier, Paris, Nice, Rennes, Valenciennes and ReimsThe opening match was conducted at Parc des Princes . Parc Olympique Lyonnais is the place where the finals and semi finals will be conducted and is supposed to be the largest of all the venues that can hold on to 59,186 fans.
2. The Teams :
Twenty four teams are playing the tournament which involves six groups of four each. Teams from around the world have come for the tournament which includes 2 from Oceania, 4 from Asia, 9 from Europe including the host country, and 3 each from Africa, South America and North America respectively. The qualification was done through plays offs, mix of groups and tournament performance.
3. The Favourites :
The Unites States remain the favourites by ranking number one in the world and holding the fourth title. While the US holds on to its position, hosts France is trying to give tough competition by emulating the men’s team who took home the Cup last year and trying to move beyond the fourth rank.
Even after being defeated in the semi finals in 2015 and quarter finals in 2017 European Championship, Germany serves as a major threat by holding on to second rank in the world. The rest of the teams could learn some stress management techniques from Germany.
4. The Money :
2 million dollars were offered to US in 2015 for winning which is comparatively way less than the 35 million dollars given to mens team. However the amount has been raised to 4 million dollars and the overall price has been shot up from 15 million to 30 million dollars.
5. How do the rounds work? :
The last sixteen comprises of the winning two teams each form the six groups. A mini league is conducted for the teams that hold the third place with the top four progressing. The loss in mini league results in a direct knockout.
6. The Mascot :
A mascot is required for every World Cup and France 2019 has a young chicken named Ettie as its Mascot who is supposedly the daughter of the mascot of France 1998.
