Here’s what you need to do when you spot your first grey hair

So we guess, you just spotted your first grey hair and are currently traumatized about it. Relax! It’s not the end of the world. We know you didn’t see this coming so soon. But consider yourself lucky that you at least have hair that can turn gray in the first place. A lot of bald guys would die to be in your position. Here are some tips on what you can do when you spot your first grey hair.

1. Do not pluck it! :

Even though the statement – “Plucking grey hair makes them multiply” is a myth, plucking the greys really is a bad idea. Pulling out unwanted hair can damage your follicles and cause bald patches. Go for dyeing instead. Alternatively, you can snip it shorter if you want it to be out of sight. It’s the follicle you want to be good to, since the ultimate goal is not to have less hair.

2. Switch you shampoo and conditioner :

Now is the good time to give your hair a change and switch your shampoo and conditioner. Go for hair products that have brightening qualities. Shampoos and conditioners with brightening qualities will ensure your greys, even those that are far and behind, stay vibrant.

3. Go subtle when dyeing :

Even though it’s too soon for a dye job, it is still an alternative that you can consider. If you have small patches of grey hair, you can dye them by matching the colour with your original hair colour. Make sure your dye blends well with the original colour. You do not want to make your dye job very obvious.

Once you have more greys, it becomes a good time to embrace them or dyeing is an obvious option if you are content with people noticing it.

4. Oil your hair :

Oil is a highly underrated hair styling product. Oil tends to soften and relax your hair and gives you a healthy sheen. It prevents dullness in your already existing greys and makes them appear healthy and silver. You can always add a drop or two to your existing hair styling product if you have short hair or use it as a taming agent for your longer locks.

5. Take care of your hair :

Even though you cannot totally stop your hair from greying naturally, you can always take precautions to make sure it doesn’t happen because of less hair care. Avoid using products with heavy chemicals. Products like dry shampoo and other hair sprays tend to contribute in the greying. Taking proper care of your hair and not taking it lightly will surely help you have the kind of hair you desire.

We know it’s too soon for your locks to turn grey. But it’s always better to project optimism. Embrace you greys and the new personality that comes with it. Carry yourself with confidence and own the change.
