Shrugs For Men: Yay Or Nay

Shrugs are cropped, cardigan-like garments usually worn on the top of a shirt or blouse. Unlike jackets, shrugs are not treated as add-ons to the overall look which is why they are not taken off repeatedly. Though shrugs have been around in the fashion world for a long time, people didn’t notice their pizzazz until a few years ago.

Shrugs are extremely popular among women. But now they are also becoming increasingly popular among the fashionable men folk. Let’s list down a couple of tips that men must keep in mind while wearing a shrug:

1. Opt For Quality Shrugs:

Women can wear all kinds of shrugs – netted, woollen and cotton. That is because they have so many fashion attires to wear. But for men, they need to consciously choose a shrug that not only complements their clothing but also is made of quality material. Woollen and nylon shrugs look the best on men. Netted and cotton ones look drab.

2. Color-Coordinate:

Don’t wear a red shrug on a yellow shirt. That’s a fashion blunder. The most popular colour choices in shrugs for men are black, navy blue, gray, maroon and purple. These colours gel well with almost all other shades – bright and dull. So mix and match your attire wisely.

3. Avoid Short Shrugs:

Yup. This garment comes in all sizes. Some come till the upper part of the back, some fall below the knees and others come till the waist. For men, shrugs reaching the waist are an awesome option. Other sizes won’t look good on them – given their physical build is way different from women.

4. Wear Them With Shirts:

If you wear a shrug with a t-shirt (unless it is a collared one), it surely won’t look good. Shirts and shrugs complement each other. Plus, shrugs instill a sense of confidence and seriousness which is good, especially, if you wear one to work.

A shrug has its own character. This is the reason why you should pick and choose a garment that is not only made of quality material (wool, nylon) but also a decent colour that you can wear with almost any outfit of yours.
